LRM Interior Design’s Laguna Beach office has been hiding the lovely designer Kari Seydewitz – no longer! For this week’s Inspiration, Kari has discovered a product that covers two topics close to her heart: beautiful fabric and ecological sensibility.
Calvin Fabrics is an Oregon-based fabric supplier whose goal for over 55 years has been to be a designer’s resource for all types of fabrics, from chenilles to silk, from damasks to tapestries.
But now Kari has discovered their latest offering – a product so new it isn’t even on the Calvin Fabrics website yet: an eco-friendly line of linen fabric.“I thought it was really interesting to find a company that focuses on eco-friendly fabric that still looks gorgeous!” says Kari. And it’s true: designers love linen for its earthy yet sensual look, plus it filters light wonderfully – a plus in coastal areas such as Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Crystal Cove.
Linen should be made of flax fibers, but sadly, many linens now are made from synthetics, which not only makes it inferior in quality, but also more detrimental to the environment. Depending on its production, linen can be a very eco-friendly fabric, and Calvin Fabrics’ linen complies with the most up-to-date regulations for conservation, recycling and earth preservation.
“I found it truly inspiring that any and all waste made from this product is recycled into something that can be used in everyday life,” says Kari.
