Yolo Colorhouse: the Environmentally Responsible Paint Company

Kristen Rusert, Project Manager at LRM Interior Design, was taken with an article in the October issue of Traditional Home magazine.

“I would love to find a client that hires LRMID for a project that starts from the ground up,” Kristen says enthusiastically. “It would be wonderful to incorporate some–or all–of the eco-friendly ideas used in the article’s featured home.”

There were some of the many “green” features that David and Karen Stitt incorporated into their Arkansas home that Kristen thought would be great for Southern California homes. In her opinion, the particularly notable were:

  • Small, west-facing windows to reduce heat from the afternoon sun, keeping cooling needs to a minimum
  • Solar water heating, using roof panels
  • A wood-burning fireplace with a catalytic converter
  • A recycling center with removable plastic bins that can be washed
  • Insulated, stained concrete floors
  • Use “The Owl“, a wireless energy monitor that displays a home’s energy costs
  • Fluorescent lights, up to 75% more efficient than incandescent bulbs
  • Low- or no-VOC paints (Volatile Organic Compounds) from companies such as Pittsburgh Paints and Yolo Colorhouse

The LRM Interior Design team is ready to incorporate greener living into any client’s home. “We all recognize the need for being eco-friendly,” comments Kristen. “And we’re able to show people that it can look great, too!”
