Many people think that they know what an interior designer does. They design the whole room, the whole house, the whole project. Right?

Actually, it doesn’t have to be that cut and dry. A large part of many interior design firms’ business, including LRM Interior Design, is actually to do with furniture and purchasing.

Designing a house is not just about paint colors and fabrics. LRM Interior Design can furnish an empty house with lighting, furniture and upholstery, case goods, beds and bedding, pillows, artwork, accessories, rugs, plants, containers, patio furniture, tile and plumbing fixtures. We can also replace any and all of these items in a fully furnished home!

For example: recently a woman called us for her services after she had used the “free design services” at the store where she bought the furniture. The recommended furniture arrived at the house and, to her great surprise, was completely the wrong size for the room. She called us, and is now a new client, fully aware of the value of an interior designer’s services. As it turned out, those “free” services weren’t so free after all.

Not only do we take that guesswork—and the resulting headaches—out of purchasing, we also take the commissions and inflated prices out too. What we put in is creativity and quality!

Here are the main reasons why purchasing through LRM Interior Design is a better solution than buying on your own:

1. We ensure that the size of the furniture is correct for the space it is intended for (see above!). This is officially called a “space plan,” and if your interior designer doesn’t provide one, you should worry.

2. We can provide custom options for clients that either don’t want to buy what’s in the shops or that need what’s not normally available off the shop floor. For instance, custom-length drapery, custom heights on sofas and chairs, bigger sofas for taller people or duvets that actually fit an oversized bed.

3. We ensure that the style of the furniture fits the space it is intended for by creating a design concept and colorboards.

4. We make sure that the fabric and/or finishes are appropriate for the home. For instance, some items are not appropriate in homes that have pets or children, or perhaps the fabric originally chosen would fade in the area’s direct sunlight. LRM Interior Design has the product knowledge to make these kinds of decisions for the client.

5. We are not limited to one or two manufacturers the way that most retail stores are. LRM Interior Design can access thousands of manufacturers to ensure the correct item selection for the right budget.

Look out for the next part of this blog, where we look at how LRMID not only makes a home beautiful, but also provides a cost savings to their client without compromising quality.
