Do you ever wonder how interior designers always seem to find the perfect fabric for the project? How the drapes just seem to be created by magic, and the pillows and shams on a bed look absolutely made for the bed?

It’s not really magic, although we’d like you to think so. We’ll say it again: the entire staff at LRM Interior Design is obsessed with every detail. That means if we can’t find the perfect fabric for your curtains, or the perfect pillow for your bed, or the correctly sized cushion for your window seat, we make it. From scratch.

Honestly, we wouldn’t—and couldn’t—do it any other way. Everything installed on any and all of our projects has to be perfect. So if we can’t order what we need for the design, we are lucky to have the contacts that will create our projects to our specifications.

For instance, the piece in the photograph above is for a project in Newport Coast. We designed sheer panels to hang from the canopy of the bed in the clients’ master bedroom, and had this complicated pattern embroidered directly on the fabric. This is just one of many custom embroidered pieces throughout the home; we also have created custom window treatments and specially designed sheets and pillowcases.

What we love about custom embroidery is that we can choose from any fabric and any design and have it produced using one or many of their hundreds of colored threads to choose from. We love making fabrics, pillows, window treatments and other soft furnishings completely personalized for our clients. As a matter of fact, we have a special affinity for custom window treatments, cushions and pillows. We know that your friends and guests won’t realize that the work is custom; what they’ll notice is how amazing every detail in your home is.

And even if no one but you and your significant other ever see your master bedroom, it’s a wonderful feeling to know that your bed the only bed like it in the world, and it’s just how you want it. And it’s not just us that think so: This room won LRM Interior Design an ASID award in 2009.

Our luxury Newport Beach bachelor pad took Gold in Home of the Year Award! (over 3,500 sq. ft.)

This year’s ASID OC Design Awards took a nautical turn, as they were held aboard the Endeavor as it cruised through Newport Harbor. “It was a beautiful night,” recalls Lisa McDennon, who attended the awards with her husband Kevin, Senior Designer Jan Smith and new design staff member Melissa Morgan. “It was lovely to glide through the harbor and sip cocktails on the deck while mixing with some of Orange County’s top people in the industry!”

Before the evening’s events got started, Lisa, Jan and Melissa had the pleasure of chatting with the owners of Del Mar Lighting, a Tustin company that they’d had a chance to work with in the past. In a stroke of fate, Lisa, Kevin and the couple from Del Mar Lighting were seated at the same table, and they carried on their conversation as the event started.

Lisa also met Charise Buckley, another member of the interior design and ASID community, who had entered in the competition this year. Although she’d been a member of ASID for 20 years, this was the first time she’d entered a project. Lisa was especially happy to meet her because Charise lives and works in both Orange County and Colorado, and will be introducing Lisa to some great suppliers at the Denver Design Center. After scouring the OC for the right fabrics for her mountain home project, Lisa was happy at the prospect of a new trove of vendors in just the right market.

And then the ceremony started. The first award was for Best Living Room, and LRM had decided to enter this category at the last minute, but unfortunately, we didn’t win. “After that, I was too nervous to eat my dinner!” says Lisa. “I was on the edge of my seat during the entire dinner, waiting for the second to last award.”

That award was for Home of the Year over 3,500 sq. ft., and LRM had entered one of our luxury bachelor home projects that we had poured our heart and soul into. The minutes ticked on…the moment finally arrived.

And yes, we won! LRM Interior Design took the Gold award for Home of the Year over 3,500 sq. ft.!

“It means so much to receive such a prestigious award for this project, especially from my peers in the industry,” said Lisa after accepting the award for the team. “This project’s win reflects more than just the creativity and effort we put into it; it illustrates our design aesthetic and the height at which we place the bar for each of our projects.”

Of course, this follows our first-prize win at the popular ASID Designer Extravaganza event this summer, plus two awards last year at the ASID OC Design Awards 2009. The first was for Best Living Room and the second was for Best Special Room.

Lisa McDennon has also been recognized by House Beautiful magazine as one of their “Top Designers to Watch in 2010”—and what an accurate prediction that was on the part of the House Beautiful editors.

This year Lisa McDennon and the team at LRM Interior Design will be participating in the 4th Annual Designer Runway show. This event is like a combination of Project Runway and Divine Design, but even more challenging. Teams of four will have 90 minutes, seven yards of fabric and one sewing machine, and their task is to create a couture outfit for the Laguna Design Center‘s runway.

Forgive us for being biased, but we already think that Lisa McDennon looks like she’s just stepped off a runway most days. Hopefully she’ll be the one to shimmy her way down the Designer Runway next month, after giving her superb fashion advice to the others on her team.If so, the other teams won’t have a chance!

There will be martinis, wine and hors d’oeuvres for the audience to enjoy while the evening’s events transpire. The team’s outfits will be judged: not by Heidi Klum, but by a panel of celebrity judges hand picked for the occasion.

Special Room Category Entry for LRM Interior Design

September 12, 2009 — At the Coto De Caza Golf Club, a marquee hovered over the 15 beautifully set tables, set up for the event to honor the ASID Orange County chapter’s winners for the 2009 Design Awards. The 150 guests trickled in as a big-screen television scrolled through all the nominees.

Lisa Rachelle McDennon, principal of LRM Interior Design, had barely had a chance to sit down before she was up again…to receive her first award of the evening.“I was a little nervous as I arrived, but I couldn’t sit down,” recalls Lisa. “I introduced myself to a few people, and was happy to be able to speak to Wanda Bogart for a few minutes. Then I met Diane Sparacino, ASID-OCC president and Robert Esterley, of whom I’ve been a fan for some time, but never met.”

Lisa finally sat down as dinner was served, just as the first category, Living Rooms, was announced. The big screen scrolled through the nominees, and soon LRM Interior Design’s entry appeared. Diane Sparacino opened the envelope, said “And the winner is: Lisa….”

The noticeably long pause was excruciating for Lisa, but worth it all when Diane finally finished with “…McDennon!” Lisa made her way to the front to accept her award and have her photograph taken for the press.

LRM Interior Design’s second chance at an award came towards the end of the evening, in the Special Rooms category. It was announced that, since it was such a big category, it had been split up into four awards: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The Bronze winner was called out; not LRMID. The Silver winner was called out; again, not LRMID. Lisa’s fingers were crossed. The Gold winner was called out; and yes, it was Lisa McDennon!

President Diane Sparacino made a short speech about how, although she had only met Lisa a few moments before, she would like to welcome her to ASID as a new member, and congratulated her on such an auspicious start to her membership. Diane Sparacino pointed out that LRM Interior Design was the only contender to win more than one award. Lisa felt lucky to have not only won the award, but also to be personally mentioned by the president at the podium.

LRM Interior Design did not win the People’s Choice Award; that went to Wendy Ann Miller of WAM Interior Design. But overall, Lisa was not complaining at all. Since the judging for the awards was completely anonymous with independent judges from Los Angeles, candidates were judged solely on content, quality and talent, not on name or reputation. The judges were a mix of design industry professionals and professors of design.
