This Inspiration about outdoor copper panels comes from designer Kari Seydewitz. Parasoleil, a company out of Boulder, Colorado, has designed copper panels to use for shade and privacy in exterior home design, gardens and yards. They have also been adapted for use as railings, drop ceilings, fountain sculptures, awnings, interior screens and canopies.

“I liked the fact that Parasoleil’s products are so essentially green,” says Kari. “The screens last long, are very versatile, but are simple to manufacture while also being reusable as well as recyclable.” What else makes these panels so appealing? Strength and flexibility: they are strong enough to withstand heavy winds, driving rain and snow storms, but also flexible enough to accommodate the most creative ideas for usage.

Kari adds: “I also like the fact that they are a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG). It’s a fantastic combination of beautiful design that is innovative, ecofriendly and extremely versatile.”

Thinking that there must be a downside? There’s not. Parasoleil’s copper screens are maintenance free: they never rust or drip stain, but rather ages beautifully to either a dark bronze or verdigris green.

Parasoleil’s commitment to the environment can be seen in their manufacture. They use only recycled copper, which reduces the use of toxic chemicals. The panels are made in the United States, which cuts down on their carbon footprint by eliminating shipments from foreign countries.

“I would love to get a chance to use Parasoleil’s screens in an upcoming project,” says Kari. “These screens are ideal for Southern California weather, as we’re outside to enjoy them almost year round!”
