Whether It’s a Little or a Lot, LRMID Can Make Homes Beautiful

June 27th, 2011 by jennifermyers

Lisa's inimitable style can be seen on the landing of the large, custom-built home.

Recently the home developer Terra Bella came to Lisa McDennon, principal of LRM Interior Design, and asked her to help with one of their “spec” homes in Covenant Hills. Covenant Hills is the area of Ladera Ranch where homes are exclusively custom built, and this one is on one of the best lots in the development with stunning views over Orange County.

A “spec” home is a custom home built by a developer or investor, not by an actual homeowner. In order to show the beautiful home in its full glory, Terra Bella knew they needed the deft touch of Lisa McDennon and her team.

Since it was more of a staging than a home remodel, Terra Bella did not want to spend the money for the LRM team to design the entire property, but they knew that any additions she made would add that perfect touch. They asked Lisa to focus on architectural details, one of her specialties, plus items such as advising on flooring choices, wall finishes, lighting, and the tile work on the pool and the master bath. Everything a client needs to redesign a room fits inside this beautiful box.

Everyone is talking about “Design in a Box” nowadays, and more and more clients have been asking for it. What is Design in a Box, actually? How can someone who knows nothing about design put together a room that’s been designed by a professional? Especially a multiple award-winning designer like Lisa McDennon?

LRM Interior Design has perfected the process, offering a complete road map from a client’s starting point to their dream design. LRM Interior Design does all of the hard work, from creating a color board, a space plan, selecting furniture, designing architectural details, window treatments and lighting, and manages to fit all of it inside a beautiful, richly colored box. Many people think that they know what an interior designer does. They design the whole room, the whole house, the whole project. Right?

Actually, it doesn’t have to be that cut and dry. A large part of many interior design firms’ business, including LRM Interior Design, is actually to do with furniture and purchasing.

Designing a house is not just about paint colors and fabrics. LRM Interior Design can furnish an empty house with lighting, furniture and upholstery, case goods, beds and bedding, pillows, artwork, accessories, rugs, plants, containers, patio furniture, tile and plumbing fixtures. We can also replace any and all of these items in a fully furnished home!

For example: recently a woman called us for her services after she had used the “free design services” at the store where she bought the furniture. The recommended furniture arrived at the house and, to her great surprise, was completely the wrong size for the room. She called us, and is now a new client, fully aware of the value of an interior designer’s services. As it turned out, those “free” services weren’t so free after all. (read the rest of this post…)

Lisa McDennon introduces LRM Interior Design’s new concept: Design In A Box.

“This is a design package that we created for the client that needs our help, but can’t afford a full contract,” explains Lisa McDennon, principal of LRM Interior Design.

All the elements a client needs to redesign a room literally come in a beautifully wrapped presentation box, and includes:

  • Colorboard
  • Space Plan
  • Furniture selection
  • Architectural details (for instance, a fireplace or built-in cabinetry)
  • Window treatments
  • Lighting

The box will also contain paint color swatches in two folders: one that provides a color palette for the room and another to serve as a quick reference guide for furniture and accessories. (read the rest of this post…)

Inspiration: Moroccan Flair

Bathroom in Aliso Viejo home

Bathroom in Aliso Viejo home

Kari Seydewitz, designer for LRM Interior Design, was inspired last week by one of LRMID’s previous projects. Lisa McDennon and her team remodeled this Aliso Viejo house with a Mediterranean feel, with a lot of decorative tile, rich colors, detailed cabinetry and unique lighting fixtures.

In the home’s guest bathroom, Kari’s eye was drawn to the ornate tile border above the stone wall tile that echoed the shape of the mirror’s frame. Both the hanging light fixtures and the studded cabinet doors give a Moorish feel to the bathroom. “This is a good example of how a room’s decor can set a mood,” says Kari. Rooms, especially ones like bedrooms and bathrooms, can be created as a calming retreat, and creating that feeling or mood is important. For complete satisfaction with the finished product, Lisa McDennon, principal of LRM Interior Design, suggests using a professional designer. (read the rest of this post…)
