Is anyone else shocked that it’s November already? We are, and we think it’s because we’ve had such an Indian summer that we didn’t notice the time passing. Just earlier this week it was 90° here in Orange County! But today it’s raining, so we’re getting a bit more in the mood for that wonderful time of the year for celebration and family: Thanksgiving.
We wanted to share with you some easy, fun and affordable table decorations for Thanksgiving that didn’t involve pumpkins, corncobs, turkeys or cranberries. We love tradition, but we love to mix it up at this festive holiday time of year. All of these items can be purchased online, except of course the Martha Stewart item, which is more of a do-it-yourself. But that just makes it all the more special when everyone sits down at your beautiful Thanksgiving table. (read the rest of this post…)

A stunning example of mid-century modern architecture.
Spring has been quite a wet season, especially by our Southern California standards. But our opinion is that it will just provide a lush summer for our enjoyment. Here in Laguna Beach, we can tell that there’s been a lot of rain, and not just by the unusually lush hillsides, but that the goats have arrived a bit early this year. Yes, we said “goats”. They are our ecologically friendly way of ridding the beautiful Laguna hillsides of the excess vegetation. Plus, they are adorable!
But we digress. Although the spring hasn’t provided the best weather for us to enjoy the outdoors, we know that summer is just around the corner, and it’s sure to bring us some beautiful sunshine. And when the sun is shining, the locals of Southern California play, entertain and relax. And what better place to do so than in a stunning outdoor living space—in your own home? Today the weather outside in Southern California is frightful, but luckily inside it’s so delightful, thanks to some beautiful ideas on decorating your home that aren’t mass produced or seen on every street. What do we mean by that? Well, the best way is to clear your table, enlist family and/or friends, get the glue and pretty paper out, and get creating! But it could also just be getting away from the standard red and green colors for the holiday and mix it up a bit. Here’s some tips from Senior Designer Jan Smith and Design Assistant Melissa Morgan.

Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House in gingerbread
1. Gingerbread Modern Houses: You don’t need to throw tradition out the window; that’s not what we’re saying! But how about getting a little creative with the spiced-and-baked architecture? Gingerbread houses can easily be built from using a kit that you buy at the store, but that’s too easy. How about a gingerbread house inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House? Before you think you need to be an Ace of Cakes—oh wait, yes you do. This one was created by April Reed Cake design and took over 25 hours to make! And you don’t even want to know how much it cost….but 15% of the proceeds went to the restoration project in the works for Farnsworth House when it was damaged in a flood a few years ago. Williams Sonoma St. Barths coffee table
Today is May Day! Here at LRM Interior Design, we’ve decided to celebrate it with an Inspiration piece on outdoor furniture. Yep, it’s that time of year. Our executive administrator Kristen Rusert was the one to bring up the patio furniture, and wanted to help our readers find the most stylish—and most affordable—items for your outdoor area.
“I chose this inspiration topic for two reasons: the changing of the season and the economic climate,” says Kristen. “We’re Southern California residents, as are most of our clients, and that means we look forward to summer as the time for relaxing outside in the sunshine.”
Both sun- and shade-seekers know that nothing is better than spending summer days lounging on comfortable and stylish patio furniture. Here are some great choices for the online shopper to achieve their summer outdoor paradise: (read the rest of this post…)
